These are tips that I have compiled from the experiences I’ve had personally and those I’ve had with my clients. I will also include frequently asked questions that I receive from all of you. Hopefully, you too will find them useful. If you are interested in more tips, you can sign up for my monthly Email Newsletter for more guidance and support.
Resistance Training
No matter what your goal is you will benefit from stability training. You can implement balance in any of your current exercises by simply standing on one foot or working on one side of your body at a time. For example, if you are dong a lat pulldown, change the handle and pull with one arm at a time. This will force your body to recruit new muscles to stabilize your balance.
If you have been doing the same routine for longer than 3 months, it is time to modify. Your body adapts quickly so it is important to provide new stimulus in order to see results. You can change the weights and reps, but even better would be to choose new exercises and new strategies. For example, if you have been splitting up your muscle groups on specific days, start combining different muscles or pick new exercises that will include your whole body. This will ensure that you do not hit the dreaded plateau.
Nutrition
One of the easiest ways to improve your nutrition is by drinking plenty of water. Even the slightest bit of dehydration will not only affect your energy but it will also slow down your body’s ability to communicate which nutrients are required. If water is just too bland for you, squeeze some lemon in it. You will benefit in many ways by doing so.
If you are interested in making some dietary changes your best option is to try one thing at a time. Also, keep in mind that the only reason to make any changes is to feel better. “Dieting” should not be difficult, but if you feel at all deprived you might not be getting sufficient nutrients. On the other hand if you are having trouble avoiding foods you know are not good for you, you may need to reassess your goals.
If your goal is to lose weight, you will first need to educate yourself on what foods are best for you, and then try to focus on how you feel during and after you eat. Your taste buds will change according to how much you understand of food and what it represents to you. In addition, the “cleaner” you are, the more vibrant your senses will be, including your taste buds.
Take inventory in your refrigerator and cupboards. Get rid of any foods that are not going to benefit your goals and fill them with good choices. The more good foods you have to choose from, the more likely it will be that you will choose those over ordering a pizza. Furthermore, there will be many times that you will not have time to cook or you may not be in the mood. Prepare healthy meals ahead of time and keep them handy.
Above all, make things easy for yourself.
